Default I Played a Musical Piece Live

Last night I played a fiddle tune live at an open mic. Not as a sound check or a throw off noodle but as a legitimate song. I did Elzic's Farewell with a full introduction and explaination of how it came about. It seemed to go over well enough. It got applause and a hoot. Then I sang some songs. For some reason I don't feel musical numbers are all that entertaining but that is what I am aspiring to do more of. I did find out that the people running the open mic count a musical piece as one of your songs.

I've played a vary things at an open mic including classical, bluegrass etc. The next open mic I will play an instrumental "Imagine" on my Harp Guitar along with two other songs with chord walks and downs on the harp guitar.

It's always been 3 songs including non singing pieces or 15 minutes.

Harp guitar! That's cool. They are always intriguing.

If every one else is singing, the person who plays a tune will stand out. It can be a refreshing change.

In this open mic, most just do simple strumming. I'm one of the few do any fingerstyle, and I'm the only one has played an instrumental tune. I personally don't think non singing tunes don't go over as well as singing tunes. However I still play them as it's nothing like playing a new tune in front of a live audience.
