Has my guitar neck got too much relief in it?
Hi, it looks to me like there is a noticeable arc in my guitar and I'm also finding it difficult to fret notes on the first fret in particular so I'm just wondering if there is too much relief in my guitar. It was set up by a guitar tech just a little less than a year ago but it's had a few thumps and bumps that could have knocked it out of shape. There is a link below to a few photos of the neck.

Looking at the photos, it's not so much that the neck has too much relief, but that the action is too high, period. Saddle too high ... neck reset might be required.... who knows ...sounds like your nut slots are too high as well.
"relief" refers to the amount of curvature in the fretboard between the first and fourteenth frets, and is measured either with a straightedge of appropriate length or simply by depressing a string down at these two frets. You may indeed have too much relief, but it is impossible to tell from the pics. |

Take it to an expert. Can't be sure, but it appears to need professional attention.

Thanks for the replies and sorry I didn't get back to you, oh right, well I did the two fret test that you and another dude suggested and it looks very close to the frets all the way along, maybe I just need to strengthen my fingers
Thank you for taking a look and offering your advice |
