Default Tell me this normal

Ever wake up on a Sunday, make a cup of joe, get the guitar out and sound completely like you’ve never played before? So bad that you put up the guitar and hang pictures for your wife and play with the dog, who, by the way, left after the 3rd strum. And your wife says “sounds like you need strings or something”

My family completely ignores my playing whether I'm having a good day or not. I'm fairly certain I could wake up one day and start shredding like Eddie Van Halen and nobody would say a word.

There are days when I pick up the guitar and I sound like I've never picked up a guitar in my life!

LOL...I thought it was just me...My fingers do not move the same way at that time of the morning...same here...lol...

I do this a well from time to time and have a similar experience. You feel like getting up and doing that, but certain parts of your body don't feel the same way ;-0 If it was my toes not cooperating that would be just fine but....yeah...

Laughing.!!!!!!!!!!!! OM Gosh....

Big tip for you.... my experience.... More often than not the first 5 or 10 minutes of me playing is NOT very rewarding. I find if I play through those minutes and get to the 11th minute, I'm usually sounding good, to my ear.

To the OP.... Don't give up too soon.

You bet! Fortunately nobody pays close enough attention to my playing to ever notice when I’m ‘all thumbs’.

I get those fumble finger days too. Like 3notes said, a longer warmup helps.

I get the feeling I've never picked up a guitar before, every day.

Yep. With me it's mostly circulation. I wake up some mornings with my hands pretty plumped-up. That third glass of red wine the night before will turn my extremities into over-ripe tomatoes the next morning.

Ever play golf? Boy, there are days that I ask myself if I've ever held a club before. Same with guitar. Some days you got it, and others you don't. I just put the guitar down immediately and come back later.

Yes, all the time and on those rare days when everything seemed synced up just right and I'm loving the sound, the wife walks by and closes the door to the room I'm playing in just to remind me that not everyone loves the sound of a guitar as much as I do.

Yup. What’s strange for me is I can pickup my Martin and I play like garbage, then try my Takamine and I sound fine... Sometimes it’s the other way around....thought it was just me

I never play first thing on a Sunday morning. To do so would seem blasphemous.

Another old git here - my hands wake me two/three times a night - other things do the same but at different times.

I have variable degrees of Carpal tunnel and the beginnings of Dupuytrans contracture and so my hands are fairly rigid first thing and I have to get up and move about a fair bit before I can grasp anything.

Just one of those little jokes that old age plays on us.

Mine slams it.

As to the OP, there are lots of days I pick a guitar up, begin to play and put it right back down...too many anymore.
