I never play first thing in the morning. Guaranteed to be terrible. I have to wait a good while.

I had pretty much the exact same experience this morning. I think I actually need an hour or two to fully absorb all the caffeine I've swallowed before I can do something as complicated as playing the guitar.

I'm not afflicted by anything, but I have days when I pick it up and just don't have "it". The times that get me is when I practice with electric guitar stuff and it's all the same pedals and amp and guitar is it just doesn't SOUND right. Like that stuff needs a day off or to warm up. Probably just my EARs need to warmup up.

This has been mildly enlightening. Sometimes as a youngster I would feel this way when practicing violin. It's never ever been a thing on guitar or mandolin. But at 56 I'm younger than most AGF'ers.

It takes me a little while to warm up my fingers playing random chords and scales. (Not something a listener can appreciate).

Agreed also, some days feel better than others.

I know what the OP means. That was me an hour or so ago. I am working a bit on finger picking, so I have been going over a couple of bars that I usually play just fine with a pick. My instructor wants me to learn a particular right hand pattern, though, and I can't play it through. I pay attention to the right hand finger order and completely forget what to do with my left hand. It is comical.

Yep. Totally normal. Very infrequent but normal I think.

My daughter is a musician and is often aware when I am practicing and my "routine".

I had one of those times, hung my guitar up in under five minutes and left the den to go do something different.

My daughter asked "what happened?"

I answered "I forget everything I know"

On days like that it's better to cut the lawn (or shovel the driveway this time of year) and come back later.

I think quite the opposite. Music is a joyous gift and celebrating it is the absolute opposite (in my mind) of blasphemy.

Totally inappropriate for this forum. Any other response from me is against forum rules. Have a nice day.

I find I have to get myself warmed up almost every time I pick up a guitar. Some days it take longer than another for some reason.
