Default Music I grew up with is now old music!

Born in the mid fifties, remember my first listening experience around 1961 or 2 I suppose. Made me think that the gay nineties music was around 60 - 70 years old then. Now the music I grew up is about that old! WEIRD!

Welcome to the club, icuker. What's hard for me to accept is when I hear old rock songs used for commercials. These were anti-establishment songs performed by anti-establishment performers used to hawk Lincolns, soap and cookies....

I'm right there with you... late '50s. I'm also a classical fan and some of the greatest classical music is hundreds of years old. Makes the Beatles seem young.

Yea ... hard to believe that the early '80s Iron Maiden, which I could never hear on the radio growing up, is not only on it now but almost considered classic rock.

Yeah... I read somewhere years ago that "you know you're getting old when you see the toys you had as a kid in a museum."

Recently I teamed up with a younger buddy to prep for a fund-raiser event three song set.
Because Id heard him play harmonica while strumming guitar, I suggested Neil Youngs "Heart of Gold".

He didn't know it.

Had "kinda heard it, maybe", but didn't want to learn something "that old", cuz he would never play it again.

What's going on?

Old enough to remember the amusing reference to being really old on The Beatles Sgt Pepper album 'When I'm 64.'

I'll be 64 in 5 months .... and it's not that funny now!

It's interesting to me the different time periods of music all the old timers claim as the golden period of music they experienced. Mine started with Dick Dale and ended right before Led Zeppelin.

Originally by Dire Straits.
The Mary Jane version is a cover.

Born in ‘46, the quintessential baby boomer.

I recall the “folk” stuff being played on the radio, and the emerging rock & roll as well.
Learned to play in the 70s when everyone was doing the 2nd folk revival..
