Blind Faith's Can't Find My Way Home is a good one for Drop D. And if your up for it, so is Led Zeppelin's 10 Years Gone.

A couple of drop D songs that seem to go over live are:

Paradise by John Prine is great in drop D. Also, Bruce Cockburn's Wondering Where the Lions are is a fun three chorder folks seem to like. Going to California by Zeppelin is pretty as well. Has a few more chords but nothing too difficult.

The ones I do live in drop D are:

Midnight Rider - Gregg Allman
Love the One You're With - Stephen Stills
In the Air - Phil Collins
Fishin in the Dark - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

I actually capo on the second fret and leave the low E string open. that way a G is easily played as normal, as are most other chords.

Darcy Farrow - John Denver
Use somebody - Kings of Leon (I don't play the bridge)
Rocky Mountain High - John Denver
Four and twenty - Stephen Stills

Hi vg

How about an E minor chord? Or an E major chord?

All you have to do is figure out how you are going to finger the G chord, and Em, and how to avoid playing open strings which don't fit the chord…and the rest kind of takes care of itself.

The affected fingerings are any which involve the bottom (bass) string. And if you have always played all 6 string at once, that would have to be altered so you don't play all six when the bass strings doesn't fit the chord.

I usually play G with my third finger playing G on the fifth fret 6th string and my index on G at the third fret 1st string. If I don’t need the chord to feel definitively major I’ll play D at the third fret of the 2nd string and/or add the 9th playing A on the second string, 5th fret.

I play Em with my middle, ring and little finger stacked at the second fret of the bottom three strings - I add my index finger to make it major.

If the song has an F major chord, I usually play F/C. If that doesn’t work, I’ll probably reassess how badly this song wants to be in Drop D. Sometimes it can work in pseudo Drop D (really E) with a capo on the top 5 strings and the bottom string ringing. This also applies nicely to songs that have a G - Gsus vamp that can be difficult to play in regular Drop D.

A new found tune for me is Lucy Mae Blues by Buddy Guy. Its got an addictive hook, find the live version on YT(I cannot figure out embedding!) and check it out if you like acoustic blues.

An E minor I would play an E Maj7. Since the songs I do are in the key of D, there is not a song I would play with an E in it. If it did, I would not do it in Dropped D.
