I'm also trying to decide if it is worth it to get the 300 which has the 12" speaker as opposed to the 200 which has only the two 6.5" speakers. I've always found that it is nice to have at least a 10" speaker to help some of the low end notes on an acoustic, especially when you are playing at higher volumes.

Anyone else tried/bought these since the start of this thread?
I'm wondering the same thing. I rather have the 200 for size, but the 300 is only a little bigger and just a little more money. I'd love to hear a video comparing the two - or hear from somebody who has played both.

I was totally set on a future purchase of either a Loudbox Mini or Artist, but these Carvins are hard to ignore. I particularly like the AG200. Definitely seems like a better buy than the Loudbox Artist, but the Mini is a tough battle simply because of the price. The "Songwriter Package" deals make the Mini even more appealing with a $99 Sennheiser mic, stand, and cable included.

I posted to this thread back in January right after I got my Carvin AG200, and I am still loving it!

I have never felt slighted for volume or for bass. It is an outstanding amp, and I can't imagine ever needing anything else for my performance situations (solo and small ensemble).

YMMV

I got a AG200 last week and pulled a Loudbox Mini out of a pawn shop for $130 a couple of days later. Bottom line for me is the Carvin is going back and the Mini I am in awe of. The ergonomics on the Carvin are terrible- lots of small knobs crammed together on a small panel on top of the amp where they're somewhat hard to get to. The spring loaded handle/kickback stand snaps shut if the amp moves much at all. IMO the effects in the Mini are tweaked to work better for the intended purpose. I ran an iphone through the Carvin for a few hours to burn it in and wake up the speakers and still felt it wasn't as warm as the Mini.
The AG200 is a good amp and a good value but I'm not sure it deserves all the hype it gets here. Gonna cost me double shipping to get rid of it. I offered it on Craigslist for $340 with not a single nibble.

AG300 has been a great workhorse for me. Got one about 5 months ago and have been working steady with it including outside venues.

Some gigs I use backing tracks and the amp has plenty of punch for acoustic bass samples along with piano and drums. For those gigs I use an archtop and plug it directly into one of the channels. Great clean tones.

I also use it for larger venues where I only play acoustic guitar. I go direct with a Rainsong parlor (K&Ks) or a Cordoba GK. Great tone there too but it is a little overkill for smaller venues.

I got rid of a Loudbox mini and a Loudbox artist when I got the Carvin. I sometimes use a Henriksen Bud when I don't need the three channels or need to be as compact as possible.

This is just my experience.

Well screw it...I went ahead and ordered an AG300. Small knobs aside, it really seems like a great deal for what you are getting. I've spent hours and hours over the last week researching acoustic amps and it really seems like a killer amp for the money. It helps that I really like Carvin and think they are an awesome company.

Congrats on a future new amp day. Let us know how you like it.

I'm actively shopping right now for an acoustic amp as well.

The knobs are somewhat hard to see. I saw someone here or on some other forum was plugging a laptop light into the USB port and that solves a lot of the problem.

The USB port also has an issue with tablets. Works fine with my iPhone but my iPad won't recognize it as a valid charging source. I've tried various power cheating dongles but no luck. Carvin support acknowledged this problem and said there is nothing they can do because Apple changes their spec. Also had some really odd things happen when I plugged in my Nexus tablet but didn't pursue it.

Fortunately I use a Mac laptop when I do backing tracks so don't need the USB port for charging. The port works great for the light but it would have been nice to have the option to use an iPad and keep it charged. It's also totally reasonable to use a phone to play backing tracks or break music so it's probably not an issue for most.

And it's still a great amp.

When you get your AG300, play it loud for a couple of hours and
the speakers will loosen up nicely. Also try it on a pole if you have one.

Hate to do it but I'm resurrecting this post from the dead.

Discussing prices might be discouraged so I apologize, but at least this product has been discontinued for years so...

Does anyone remember the price (or can look up an old email with invoice) for the AG300 and more so what I'm after - the extension cab, 300AGE?

I paid $499 for my Carvin AG300 new from factory in 2014. I'm pretty sure that was a sale price. That included my pick of tolex fabric free (I chose black). I also sprung for the vinyl cover, which was $31.50 so with free shipping, the total was $530.50.

Here's the AG300 page from the Wayback Machine (I picked a June 2015 archive date because of the last post previous to yours, but you can choose other dates at will):

https://web.archive.org/web/20150702...coustic-series

And I assume you can still buy the products from these pages if you have the proper time-traveling credit card.

(I you're not familiar with the Wayback Machine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayback_Machine)

.

Gah! I got so excited when I saw this thread! haha

I'm still enjoying my s600b. Would be lovely if Carvin released some new loudspeakers/amps in the coming years. Their stuff was really quite good.

You don't need the Carvin brand cabinet - any 3 way passive cabinet ought to do it. I have a cheapie 3-way Kustom that works fine with my AG300.
