"UP" Songs
Hello everyone, I have a large repertoire for solo gigs, but I would classify the vast majority of it as "mellow".
I need to add a number of "UP" songs IE Faster tempo, Positive Vibe, Fun, Get you movin, types of songs for the pub crowd. I have a few examples - "How Sweet it Is To be Loved by You", "Chicken Fried", "Sweet Caroline" (these go over well ) What are some "Up" covers that go over well for you ? TIA

Consider Cherokee! Usually played at fast tempo and remains in a major key(s) throughout the whole song. One of the happier love songs :-)

You can do the tried and true Gloria-R.O.C.K. In The USA-What I Like About You medley...
I'm a big Bee Gees guy, and many songs work great in an acoustic setting - even their r&b and disco stuff. And most everyone knows the lyrics to their stuff. I despise To Be With You from Mr. Big, but it's a crowd pleaser. Hole Hearted from Extreme is a great fast paced song. Other songs... Breakfast At Tiffany's from Deep Blue Something, Save Tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry, If You Can Only See by Tonic, Selling The Drama by Live, High Enough by D*a*m*n Yankees, |

Even if you dont decide for Cherokee keep in mind you should be open to other keys. Some are more guitar friendly but ultimately you want one that will let your voice shine!

Setlist is everything.
A few years ago, I revamped my setlist and am now busy almost every night of week year 'round. I do mostly soul and R&B and I loop beats and basslines, so my set list may not be applicable to your purposes, but up tempo songs generally go over way better than ballads. Especially in restaurant / bar settings. You definitely need to have a few "gears," for that type of work. First set is pretty chill, and after you get into the second set, you can open up more, speed up more, and turn up (a little) more. I Would Die For You - Prince Cover With my bass player Zuri, who is joining Cee Lo Green for his upcoming tour. I'm so proud of her. Poison - Bell, Biv, DeVoe Cover My other duo partner, Ali. This one is mid tempo, but it's funky. Love Like This - Faith Evans Cover Headphones recommended. You can hear the beats and bass lines better. All looping is done live. There is nothing pre recorded. Last edited by The Kid!; 07-29-2016 at 12:39 PM. |
