Default They Stole My Car!

Here's the story. 1997 Buick LeSabre, looks OK, runs great. Nothing special or valuable.

Yesterday after work I parked in the street. Last night around 8 pm, I took out the trash and moved the car into the driveway. This morning at 4:30, I walked out the door to go to work and my car is gone.

Since you all will have the same questions as the police, I'll answer them.

No, the keys weren't in it.
No one else has keys or permission to drive it.
No one else has ever driven it since I bought it 2 or so years ago.
I have no reason to believe it was a prank or a vendetta.
There is no lien on it, only my name on the title and registration.

I'm completely befuddled and clueless. I just want my old car back minus a bit of gas.

Bummer indeed ,, but bothering to steal A 22 year old car, that is pretty strange

Not trying to trivialize , here is the only solace I can offer

That song popped into my head about an hour after the cop left.

If you really want the police to find it tell them you are concerned with the guy you left in the trunk. Otherwise they will drag off the street one day and you'll be called to get it at the tow companies junk yard.

Man, really sorry to hear that. Maybe some neighbors have security cameras?

Kevwind - I used to perform that Gorka tune all the time.

Not sure what you are trying to say.

New, used or rebuilt, parts for those cars are dirt cheap and common as fleas on dogs. Anything is possible...

Perhaps just a comfortable joyride. My Dad had owned a ‘98 LeSabre for a good while...’twas quite comfy. Good car. Hope you get it back and still in good shape.

The cop said they would check. I doubt it, I know the neighbors on both sides and there's a trailer park across the street.

It's not the end of the world. I paid 2 grand for the car and put 25,000 miles on it. Just so baffling. This is a real quiet, low crime area. The cop said he didn't remember the last car reported stolen that wasn't part of some sort of domestic dispute.

Hit a new low in our hood about a year ago when someone stole my garden hose right off the house! I'm 90% sure it was one of the guys from the lawn care company that the association uses......they were the only ones that could even see it.

It's a strange world we live in.

My car lives on my drive. I can see it thrgh the lounge window if the blinds are open.
Recently someone git into it and rifled everything - stole a purse with parking cash and a phone. (Old motoroloa Razr V3)
it was locked - keyless type lock - police said they probably had a gubbins that picks up the radio frequency from the key inside the house.

Keys now live in the microwave!

I know what it's like to have a car stolen - used to live in London!

Hope you get your car back.

It's real possible they'll drive it a while and just park it and walk away. That's the best case version. My wife used to work for the police department and a major part of her job was dealing with abandoned cars. It involved allot of paperwork so that the cars were cleared to be auctioned off each month. Abandoned vehicles are towed by a towing company that stores the vehicles. The tow charge here is $45 and the daily storage fee is $20 to $30. Depending on what the condition is when the car is found may have a bearing as to if you want to pay the charges and get it back or not. The expenses in your area may be different.

Not nearly as cheap or common as you'd like to believe I'd bet (remember, this car is over 20 years old). Plus, there's nothing as cheap as all parts completely free.
