Hi Jeff

Or IF he is playing chords, or more of an Irish linear style.

Exactly.

It's about the intervals, not the key, really.

Without knowing what you are trying to play, it's hard to know what to suggest, and you've gotten suggestions for other tunings. Another example: Gsus tuning, CGDGCD (aka "Orkney") is just DADGAD shifted over one string, and works well in G (or use the variant sdelsorey suggested - DGDGCD). I also use DGDGAD (DADGAD with the A string down to G), or "C-GAD", CGDGAD, which despite the name works well in G.

BUT, why not just use DADGAD? G is probably my favorite key in DADGAD. Basic I,IV,V:

G: 5x0400 (prettiest chord in DADGAD)
C: x3203x, or for more flavor: x32030 or x32000 (runner up for prettiest chord in DADGAD)
D: 004200, or D7: 000230 (lots of variations here)

Hi Jeff

And the percussive hammer/ons & pull/offs and smoothly slid slurs.
