Are you coming Matthew or are we going to audition it before you do?

Fear not, I wont wear a belt buckle or use a heavy pick...

We originally wanted a Hoffee for this guitar, but Hoffee has a limited amount of shells and we wanted the smallest travel case I could get for this sucker, so we went with Calton, black on black (I know boring, but good!). That will probably be done after Woodstock so we'll hopefully be getting some pro shots in and around the show and some initial thoughts of those who get to play it before me ! .

Thx for following along folks; the thread has been only a year but Burton and I have been cogitating about this for definitely three, maybe four years, since I moved to Florida. Cheers to Burton for being so patient with me!

This morning I was finally able to install the tuners into the headstock and see what I have been picturing in my head for so long- With them in there I can measure for the proper positions for the string holes.

I always underestimate the finicky work and this part of this guitar has more than its share- Each tuner/bushing set has 5 precision delrin sleeves/washers and has a custom length shaft. The pegs are all different lengths and progress evenly up the head- That requires different tapers for each one to maintain the critical start and stop dimensions. I could go on but you get the picture. I enjoy this work but I underestimated (when will I learn? ) what would be required and have been hustling to get everything ready for Woodstock! We should be good though- this guy is VERY close. I'm looking forward to being able to share some pictures of the neck on the body-

Here is the front and back headstock without the side plates- Those were shown above and are koa (offcuts from the back/sides). They have been sprayed and need to be buffed out. The smooth gloss finish on those will contrast nicely with the polished and oiled neck and headstock face. it is so hard to show those clearly in quick shop photos but I love the look.

Super nice Burton! Good thing tomorrow is not your shipping deadline. Can’t wait to feast my eyes on this one in person.

This was an insane amount of work and I feel like you should get double the price.

Ha. Definitely no! I had seen pictures of the Uchida headstock this is based on and loved it- and I am very glad to be able to make this one with his permission but I would feel strange making something so unique, and very much his design-wise, something I do regularly.

Really something. This guitar shatters the edge on so many levels. Truly awesome. Can't wait to see/play it.
