NGD GS Mini Hog
Picked up a used GS Mini in mahogany a couple days ago. The original owner bought it to learn guitar, played it a couple days and put it in the case in his closet. Other than a few light pick guard scratches it's flawless.
The action was kind of high 1/8 all the way across so I thought it would need the neck shimmed. Took it to an authorized Taylor repair shop and the tech said all it needed was a truss rod adjust. He lubed the truss rod and adjusted it now the action is a hair over 3/32-1/16. In the last 6 months I've developed arthritis in my shoulders and my big dreadnought fender (yeah I know) was causing me some shoulder pain. I've had to quit playing bass guitar because of it. I've been playing a lot of square neck dobro lately because it doesn't cause my shoulders to hurt. Anyway I tried out a couple Spruce top GS minis at GC in Stl. Both had pickups in them which was something I wasn't really interested in. The first one sounded ok but the 2nd one blew me away with the loudness and tone. Quite a difference between two exact same guitars I didn't try a mahogany one because I didn't think it would be bright enough sounding. I went there to order a dobro (Recording king RR75 Phil Leadbetter model, which is fantastic btw) so I left without buying a guitar. A few days later I see an ad on facebook for a hog mini in a town 30 miles away. I see on his page that he is a sportsman fishing, hunting etc... and on a whim asked him if he would trade for my Henry 22 rifle which I barely use and he went for it. After a $20 tweek at the repair shop I have a mint condition Taylor mini mahogany. It's certainly not a bright guitar but is sure sounds and plays great. Looks nice too. Well, that's my story. NGD GS Mini Hog
Congrats! Nice story. I had 2 GS Minis...1 Koa and 1 Spruce but sold off the Spruce one. Btw, I did a poll on GS Mini top wood and Mahogany tops was the most popular in AGF...at least for those who voted. Enjoy playing your guitar!
Here’s the link to the poll...still open for more votes... https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=532626

Those Mahogany GS Minis are sweet. Congrats! It'll be much easier on your shoulder than your dread.

Congrats, I've had one for a few years now and really enjoy it.
It is my office guitar and won't be going anywhere else until I can afford a Collings/Bourgeois/Santa Cruz equivalent. I like John Pearse mediums on mine, although they don't last as long as Elixirs. |

Good find. I’ve had mine for a few months and enjoy it more than I thought I would. It encourages me to pick up the guitar more frequently. I also have bad shoulders and I know when I play the mini I won’t have any discomfort.
P.S. I called Taylor and ordered a rosewood truss cover that was only $13.00 shipped and the added benefit to the appearance was well worth it.

Congrats. They are fantastic little guitars...I just picked up a used one a few weeks ago as well. I’ve had spruce and koa tops, but I like the hog top best. Play in good health!
