Default Martin D42 v D42 reimagined

Hi.
Has anybody tried the D42 and the D42 reimagined and have a preference and if so why.
I just can’t decide between the two.
Thanks so much!
Gaz.

No experience with a D-42, but when comparing the Reimagined equivalents of the 28 and 35 series guitars, I preferred the Reimagined everytime.

The only thing I wish for the Reimagined line is that I wish you could get them without the aging toner. I would prefer a white top. Other than that, they are awesome.

I owned and loved a D42 a few years back. I recently tried a Reimagined version at Gruhn Guitars, and it was missing the magic. The D41 sounded better. The D28 Modern Deluxe even better still.

Go figure.

It’s essentially the same guitar with a different neck and string spacing. Other than the natural differences between models, the neck would be the deciding factor.

I much prefer the PRE reimagined Martins. The 1 11/16" nut and neck shape is much more to my liking.

However...

If you want a bit of both, this Custom D-42 fills the bill very nicely. I've played it and it is outstanding.

The reimagined D-41 and D-42 are the same guitar with different inlays. Same sitka top, rosewood back, and forward scalloped bracing.

The pre-imagined D42 is the same guitar as well, but with a skinnier neck. (The older D-41 has the rear bracing, setting it apart from the others.)

Any sonic difference you hear between these three guitars is purely individual variation since they are all structurally identical.

Good luck.

Pretty guitar, but the list price is a joke. You can get a brand new D-28 Authentic for almost $1000 less than that. That guitar is listed at almost twice what it's worth.

I see this with used Martins all the time. People listing used HD28’s for $2500 and up when you can get brand new ones for that. Too many people try to sell with their heart and not their head.
