I've had 19 guitars. I've been playing for 41 years. So I guess I am at -22. I still have 6 of the 19.

Yes, this seems like the correct formula: guitars per year. So for me, 7 guitars over 10 years equals 0.7. Seems like a reasonable way to quantify GAS.

I had probably 25 years where I had one guitar, and it spent probably 20 or more of those years unplayed. Not easy to calculate that sort of thing. But, ignoring that, I came up with (acoustic only) numbers of -39. Add in electrics, it's -32. I have no idea what that means at all, though I know I'm probably at the lower end of whatever kind of distribution there is. (Ex-statistician in me is mildly curious but not enough to actually do anything about it )

The longest period I've owned is a Martin D-28, had it for 8 years and counting.

The shortest period I've owned was a Yamaha A3R. I tried the AC3R and I liked it, but for some reason at that time I bought the A3R. At that time I realized that not all all-solid body guitars sound the same and some could sound horrible. It was also very heavy due to its pickup system. I sold it in less than three months I think and decided I should stop wasting money on cheap guitars and get a proper one.

But your thinking is wrong, if you've read even the first whole page of this thread. I attempted to tie this thing up yesterday by awarding my ersatz "prize,", to FROSTIE, so FROSTIE, please contact me, or I will PM you!! Or else, carry on, folks. I'm done for a while.

But the formula doesn't work for her unless you tell us how long she's been playing.

The longest period I've owned is a 1962 D-21 which I bought/traded for about 40 years ago.

The shortest period of time I've owned a guitar was less than a week. It was a pre-war OO-21 or O-21. I read an ad in the Buy & Sell paper that said something like, "Pre-war Martin guitar worth $1000. Will sell for $250. Modernly decorated."
I hopped in my car and drove two hours down the 401 to Toronto, all the while wondering what "modernly decorated" meant. When I got to the house, a kid showed me his brother's old Martin with the most beautiful Brazilians back and sides, but with heavy gauge strings which had pulled the replacement bridge off and a front with the ugliest paint job I've ever seen. I told him it would take a fortune to get it playable and I couldn't give him $250. I offered him $50 and he jumped at it. I took it home and stripped the paint off the front and was allowed $200 on a trade to luthier Ed Dick. He fixed it up and it's now owned by a British Columbia folk singer who mailed me a photo of what it looks like now. I mailed her a photo of what it looked like when I got it.

5, including an arch top Silvertone. But I didn’t play guitar for over 40 years.

Positive 9. Slowed down now. Bought way to many inexpensive and expensive guitars chasing something. Once I got to the 4000 dollar trade value mark I realized rewards were decreasing.

In the 50+ years i been playing I've only had about 10 guitars in all that time, about 8 of them being recent acquisitions, however, being a bassist for 45+ years probably explains why.and could explain the 60+ basses i've owned and still have a wall full of.

Hmm.

Not in any particular order

1. Sears Silvertone
2. 12 string Yamaha
3. An archtop of unknown brand
4. Guild D-55
5. Ovation Legend
6. Washburn D-10S
7. Epiphone cutaway a 220 ?
8. Masterbilt Dr-500R
9. Yamaha LJ6
10. Martin D-16GT
11. Larrivee OM-05
12. Gibson J-45
13. Seagull folk
14. Lucero Classical
15. Avalon
16. Cordoba Classical
17. Guild D-120c
18. Republic Resonator

18 - 35 = -17

I've been playing since I was 9 years old so that's 55 years, but I didn't play all those years. The number is probably more like 35 more or less. So its an estimate.
