Default AT4050 Stereo Mic

I got one of these a week or so back and have had time today to play with it a little. It's based on the AT4050 mic, but with a cardioid and figure of eight capsule under the hood.

A Mid/Side stereo mic also with 90 degree and 120 degree matrixed outputs, so you can choose either of the three. Pad and low cut filter as well.

I put it up and played around a bit, explaining how and what I was doing. Very nice mic and it answers a lot of what people have been asking about for multiple mics on an acoustic guitar. Very little phase cancellation due to the placement of the capsules.

Here's a link. http://db.tt/5quMDxR3

I'm using GML preamps and going through an RME A/D converter to ProTools LE. Sitting behind my audio desk. The HVAC is running softly in the background.

Regards,

Ty Ford

Sounds fine but any way possible to post a higher resolution mp3 or a wav?

Thanks Ty. Yep, sound fine - solid sound, solid image location.

Sounds really nice and wide at the 14" which was my favorite for solo piece recording, I think. The 16-18" seemed like it might fit in a tight mix better though. I like the explanations of where/what you have going on there. It has a nice warmth to my ears.

Loved the kalimba too. I'm naive, I guess, and I had to look up what that was. I knew it as a thumb piano!

Thanks, Ty! I'd been curious about the sound of this versatile mic. Your narration sure helped explain what we're hearing. Very nice recording and playing!

Moe,

Thanks! Happy to provide a helping ear. The idea of a nice sounding mic with both capsules inside keeps a lot of phasing errors from occurring. The three ways of getting stereo, narrow, wide and M/S make it pretty versatile.

Ty Ford
