Got my two Unitune's today. Like them a lot. No problems turning it on and off with it on. I can't believe someone complained about the red button. It doesn't totally agree with the Peterson but neither does the Polytune. I want to see if the Uni agrees with the Poly.

All good with it here.

I have one and it doesn’t work for me much of the time.

What do you mean? Does it not light up? Not tune? Inacurate?

Default Unitune Strobe Mode

In case someone else is trying to figure this out ... you hit the Display Mode button twice to get it into Strobe mode.

yes, but don't hold it too long, or it does something else. Don't mean to be obtuse, but I take them out of the box and stick them on my guitar. I like the factory setting: 440hz, needle display.

I dared wander into the side button land of mystery once, and barely got back! I think there's a good reason they're not easy to access.

I received mine yesterday. I like it. certainly worth the $25 sale price. I’m looking forward to using the strobe mode today to dial in the intonation on my new Telecaster. I appreciate the PSA.
Edit: it worked great except it turning off every three minutes was annoying. Not a problem for normal tuning though.

It's more accurate in strobe mode.

You'll find the (not free) Peterson iStrobosoft app to be immensely more precise and sensitive than even strobe mode on a Unitune/Polytune if you're really going to be working on intonation carefully.

What determines (limits) a tuner’s precision? Microphone? Software? Graphic interface?

I spoke with a development engineer at Peterson, and asked him how their $5000 true strobe tuners are calibrated, and he kind chuckled and said they basically have a snark-type microchip that continuously calibrates the spinning wheels.

Truth is, modern microchip tuners are as accurate and precise as anything out there. It comes down to the interface format, and how precisely YOU can apply the displayed information to your instrument. The digital peterson strobe tuners are just a snark or unitune with a nicer, bigger display depicting a strobe wheel.

They are nice (I have a desk top and clip on) but find their mic/peizo too sensitive, even with the optional clip on extension.

The inability to swivel the display.

Thanks! I was having trouble with this. The instructions are not clear.

I can't speak to the internal workings, only to what I see when I use a tuner. When checking intonation there are slight degrees of "out" that show up on iStrobosoft but do not show up on less sensitive tuners. You can only be as precise as what the tuner will show you.

And beyond that, there is a Harmonic add-on (additional $$$) for iStrobosoft that will show far more information than any other hardware or software tuner I've seen.
