You are correct. I saw CSN at Red Rocks once, from very good seats. He was amazing. He played this solo that had sort of a raga feel to it, amazing how fast he played and yet how tastefull it all was.

Vocally, I always point to the harmonies in "Helplessly Hoping" as an example of perfection. A great song.

One of the great albums of all time. But then again I say that about each of their albums. I wish they had recorded more.

I got a contact high just reading your post.

tasteful is a good way to describe stills playing. i have the acoustic concert dvd and i couldn't help noticing how much he adds and compliments every song he plays on. he never gets in the way or overrides a song. he just makes it better, whether its a rocking electric number or an acoustic song. he can carry the whole thing by himself with an acoustic and nothing else. those superb 3 part harmonies don't hurt anything either!

I have been mesmerized by this one the past week. It's Stephen's second signature -- a 000-45S Stephen Stills. I am blessed to own it. It's a really different guitar for me. I've been picking my way through Stephen's just released "Man Alive." It's a really good offering. Check it out.

What a beauty. Was that the guitar that was being built for him on that Nightline show I was talking about?

I don't think they made a lefty version, not that I'm actually qualified to play a work of art like that yet.

One of the great bands of all time.

In honor of this thread, I put my Taylor 110 into EEEEBE tuning and am forcing the cats to listen to me bang out "Carry On" and "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes".

All kidding aside, that was a great performance. CSN(&Y) has to be one of the best acoustic rock bands ever, no?

Here is that classic moment:

CSN&Y collectively and solo have probably been the biggest influence on me. Too many others to list but those guys were and are amazing!

If you're a fan of CSN&Y it's worthwhile watching the recent documentary film "Remember my Name" about David Crosby by Cameron Crowe. It covers him from the Byrds to where he is now. I thought I knew all bout CSN&Y but this was a real eye-opener about those days and their personality clashes. Lots of things I had wrong.

I've been told (by folks who should know) that Crosby contributed a little rhythm guitar here and there.

I like Neil's amused expression with this Gibson SJ-200 in a sea of Martin D-45's.
