1987 Alvarez - Yairi DY39
Does anybody know what the specs of this year and model of the Alvarez K Yairi DY39 is?
Specifically; are the back and sides solid rosewood or laminate? I’ve got my eye on one that is being listed for about $350 but just want to know what I’d be buying. Thanks Dirk |

Laminate. But A-Y laminate, which is different than plain ol' plywood.
It's 3 layers of rosewood. Kazuo Yairi's way of making a sturdy guitar that wouldn't split. Part of his genius as a guitar maker. Assuming the guitar is in good shape, that's an excellent price.

Thanks.
I have not seen it physically but looks in great shape for a 30 year old from the photos. It’s got some scratches and bumps but nothing you wouldn’t expect on an older instrument. My math is actually not great, it’s 430USD (650NZD) https://www.trademe.co.nz/music-inst...2539963663.htm |

Nice.
I don't think that preamp is original, as I've never seen that brand on a Yairi. Or one in that spot. The DY38 was the mahogany entry-level Yairi. This DY39 is the same guitar with coral rosewood, therefore a bit more expensive. Lots of DY38s around, and they are good guitars. Not so many 39s around.
