Om28 custom
Hello
I’m going to place an order from martin custom shop. My Idea is: Om28 Deep body. I play fingerstyle and strumming. I’ve some doubts: pearl innlay (only perimeter and rosette, or hurringbone?) adirondack xbrace or sikta?) what do you think? 14 Frets Clear of Body OM28, Deep body version Modern Adhesive Right Handed width neck:1 3/4" - 44.5mm string spacing: 2 1/4" - 57mm 25.4 - 645mm Low Profile neck top: Adirondack Spruce Back and side: cocobolo top X Brace - Forward Shifted 1/4", scalopped, adirondack ge binding: Antique White Style 28 (Checker) Style 28 Boltaron |

All very nice, I can't argue with any of it except that personally I'd want 2-5/16" at the bridge. I think you will love the result!

I also would like 2-5/16 but i have dome doubts that string spacing could make high e slipping off fretboard with low profile shape. What about inlay oearl inatrad hurringbone?

I have an OM28VR. I wouldn't want it any deeper than it is, at least for recording. It always requires rolling off the low end.

if i built the sqme guitar in the 42 style martin configurator says a lot of difference in th price, but why is there this difference? it’s always standard adirondack and premium cocobolo, does anyone can explain? is it a different upgrade of adirondack? do i pay more pearl inlay?

The neck is widened appropriately so the strings stay the same distance from the edge of the fretboard.

maybe better 2-1/4 cos i also play strumming.
an other spec i would like to change is the binding, i would include wood binding (ebony?). plastic binding is terrible, i 've a d42 of 2016 and it is going away. |

does anyone know differences between om28 custom and 0m 42 custom if i choose the same woods (standard adirondack and cocobolo, golden era bracing, etc)? price is quite different
also i asked myself if it would more be playable 00 deep body than om, could be om too close to dread? Last edited by identity71; 01-10-2020 at 08:08 AM. |

00 deep versus OM? Here are some thoughts based on my new 00d Baranik.
• Smaller body size is more comfortable sitting down • Its note attack seems a little faster and sound is more “immediate” compared with a larger guitar • Extra ¼ inch of depth seems to add to the bass response I don’t know where you are based but I’d recommend going to a music shop that has both body sizes and play them together. Doesn’t need to be a Martin, as this is just a way to get a feel for the weight/comfort, attack and “airiness” of the two guitar sizes, to see which you prefer. |

I am a dread guy, i gave lots of OM a go before with all sorts of configuration, 14 fret, 12 fret, deep body, various bracings and wood combo, i still don’t find them close to a dread. Thats is why OMs have their place. In my experience, a 00 is closer to an OM than an OM is to a dread.

Italy and Australia are probably pretty similar for 00 deep bodies! |
