That is looking very pretty. The rosette looks retro and business like as if this guitar is designed for serious players. Ebony fingerboard carries that theme too. I like it.

Some more shots of neck building.
Steve using a saw rasp to rough carve the neck. Then a scraper to fine tune it. Inlay in the peghead. More soon. |

Laying out the inlay for the back of the peghead.
Using a jeweler’s saw to cut out the mother of pearl. A look at the final inlay. More soon. |

Looks perfect guy's. The idea of the inlay was to honor my Dad who passed away a couple of months ago and also to honor my Grandkids, the newest of which will be born in March. The growing flowers represent life beginning again, the halo for those who have passed, intertwined to show family. Steve pulled it off perfectly and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Thanks Steve/Ryan, this means a lot to me.

Thanks Tom, I've followed several of your builds and love the personal touches each have had. Hopefully this guitar makes it to BIG for folks to enjoy, I'm sure it will be amazing, and I'm speaking of both this guitar and BIG being amazing!

Thanks Ben. The guitar just returned from the finishing spa at the end of last week, hopefully pictures coming soon. I got a sneak peek and all I can say is WOW.

So, one of the nerve-wracking jobs was done today--namely, cutting free the masking tape that was shielding the top from finish. This is one of those steps where you want (and need) a pair of steady hands. Steady hands were so last century, though...
Anyway it was done, successfully, preparing for this step: IMG_2667.jpg Each step, and it looks more like a guitar. Dave chose an African Blackwood bridge which, granted, isn't obvious from this pic. But the subtle browns in its grain work well with that sinker redwood top. Not long now, Dave! |
