Default Online Guitar Lessons

Has anyone tried any of the online guitar lesson sites - either the free ones or the pay sites? I'd be interested in your comments and experiences.

I'm an intermediate level player (meaning I used to play extensively in younger days, and with my kids now a bit older am getting back into playing more often). I play a mix of folk and folk/rock, and am interested in exploring fingerstyle and jazz a bit more.

can't help with online-lesson suggestions...

don't know where you are at in your fingerstyle playing...

but I do know a sensible first step for anyone interested in getting into fingerstyle music would be to go to

www.accentonmusic.com

and get

Mark Hanson's

The Art of Contemporary Travis Picking

and

The Art of Solo Fingerpicking (How to Play Alternating-Bass Solos)

and proceed from there....

after that there's gobs and gobs of more generalized fingerstyle tab books and instruction available from

www.melbay.com

www.elderly.com

www.homespuntapes.com

Craig Dobbins Acoustic Guitar Workshop

John Knowles Fingerstyle Quarterly

and artists' own sites...etc...

don't know that I'd give a dime for lessons online....

*excellent* materials already exist...

all just opinion mind you....

by the way...

because they aren't labeled as such...

the Travis Picking book is 'book 1'

the Solo Fingerpicking book is 'book 2'

do not try to do book 2 without having first done book 1...

your fingers might find themselves in a bit of a 'jam' that way...

Thanks a lot. I'd picked up those books and am making my way through them. Lot's of it is "review" or retraining out of practice fingers.
