I have owned two of them. They were both exceptional instruments. They are pretty hard to find because of the low editions.....I know of one that someone had, though not sure I can locate them because my address book got deleted....they are beautiful, with very high grade tops with lots of cross silking.

If I can locate my pictures, I will post them up.

I used to own the Croce D-21 in brazilian. One of the many nice guitars that I used to own but sold during the years of frenzied GAS. Wasn't too keen on the dime embedded in the fingerboard but it wasn't horrible, either. They do pop up now and again for sale.

Default Martin D21JCB

I currently have one, #44 of 73.
I purchased it about a year and a half ago from a collector. It was never played and still had the hang tag on it! Sorry, but I believe a guitar should be played. My beneficiaries might feel differently when they go to liquidate my estate, but at that point in time I will not care what they think.
The guitar is a pleasure to play.

I have one, # 48 I think. They were supposed to make 73 of the JCB models but I think they only made 65 and 73 India Rosewood models. I also have a Martin CSN ,

Saw him play in Detroit 1972 I believe. Small club maybe 200 people, what a performance.

Even though I am "Period Correct" I was not a huge Croce fan. I appreciated his talent but it was not the same way I felt about say Jackson Browne and The Eagles.

My friend Greg Golden, owner of Bizarre Guitar in Reno, had the model when I first starting getting back into acoustics. I remember thinking how cool the dime in the fretboard was, and how at some point it would be interesting to actually explain to someone that you used cash to make an phone call, and that cash was 10 cents.

I passed on the guitar and bought a Koa Larrivee L-10 that I love, but I have thought about the Croce model from time-to-time.

One more reason to love all things musical.

This piqued my interest you could say, great shame the link is long gone, but it was a long time ago.

Anyone with any updated links/info?

Default Jim croce martin

I checked out the Wildwood listing. It is the Indian Rosewood model. Apparently 73 of those were made. We have the Brazilian Rosewood one. I understand it is more rare as only 65 were made and any past listings appear to be more costly as well. Can’t find any current listings.

FYI

List prices on release (2000):

Indian rosewood $3,450
Brazilian rosewood $8,475

As mentioned above, all 73 of the Indian rosewood variant sold, but only 65 Brazilian (although up to 73 were offered for sale, but insufficient orders received to make them ie. there are not another 8 Brazilian D-21JC’s lying about someplace).

In both cases 2 prototypes were built, which are not included in the above numbers “because of the difficulty of determining if they sold and exactly how they were marked” [Martin’s generic statement regarding all prototypes].

Regards,
Clive
