Default Best kit to get..help needed

Looking for any advice on which kit to buy. Hoping to build a dreadnought. I've seen so many on the internet.
Are there any good reliable ones besides Stew Mac?

I’ve used Martin’s kits several times, including several dreadnoughts.
I was pleased.

Have you looked into Blues Creek?

for a first build you can't beat a Martin kit. If you join the owners group, you can get a discount there too.

Default A thought

Guitar kits from varying sources are not equivalent to each other. They vary in the degree of prefabrication and variations in materials. Prices vary depending on these variations, and a whole bunch of other differences.

It will take a fair bit of work to become an informed consumer, enjoy the trip!

Martin kits are on 25% off sale right now.
Join the Martin Owner’s Club and save another 20%.
I’ve used several of these kits and this is a pretty good deal.

Prepare to spend some time at this site:

http://www.kitguitarsforum.com/

Blues Creek, Stew-Mac, and Luthiers Mercantile all offer kits that have been widely praised. And, as anywhere else, you get what you pay for.

Above all, ask a lot of questions before you get out the credit card.

The number usually thrown around is 100 hours. Expect at least half of that to be finishing.

You can download the instructions for the StewMac kit at their website for a good look at what you’ll need. Don’t buy any of the packaged tool kits; identify the items you need and get those.

The kitguitars forum is an excellent resource and John Hall / BluesCreek Guitars videos on you tube are a fantastic resource.

One more thing: before you go putting a lot of money down on tools, see if there are any amateur luthiers in your neighborhood. Most of them are quite willing to loan you what you need and give you more advice than you can use.

I, for one, live in Sacramento, CA. and have all sorts of tools that I could loan out, as well as eight or nine molds, and seven or eight books on lutherie, which I'd be happy to offer to loan. If there are any readers here who might want to make contact with me, feel free to PM me.
