Default Not mine, but cool

This isn't an update on my Nautilus, but Ben announced what his 200th will be and posted the pics of the woods yesterday on FB and I thought I would share:

Link To The Post

CC. Number 200. Duocentuplicate.

For my 200th guitar, I am making something small and subtle. This will be the first Ibex, the smallest of my Comma Series guitars. Designed, but not yet realized in wood. Incredible quarter sawn Brazilian rosewood, and 50 year old Sitka spruce.

It is hard to believe that I have made and managed to sell this many guitars, but not a day goes by that I am not grateful and bewildered that I get to do such a thing for a living.

Default Body is Done!

Ben chose to be the most productive person in America during the Super Bowl yesterday (take that, Brady) and accomplished this...I can't get over these woods...and Ben's craftsmanship is mind-blowing!

Sooo cool! And I love that Indian rosewood.
Ben’s work is truly drool-worthy.

That top is amazing. I thought I sorted through all that old Sitka myself. This one must have been hidden somewhere to keep hacks like me away from it. That is amazing color and with the bear claw it escalates to the incredible territory.

OMG that top is unbelievable. Reminds me of flashes of lightning. I never thought Sitka would leave me feeling like this.

Default Neck

Ben picked a "wiggly" piece of Mahogany for the neck to match the wiggles on the rest of the guitar. I love the figure:

Ben's words...

John’s Nautilus. The woodwork is done. Now for lacquer. Such a pleasure to work with these woods! Sitka over Indian rosewood, Ziricote bindings.
All sitting atop a fancy blue cloth, no less.

Looking exceptional, John. I wonder if that ziricote trim is from my ziricote set? That would mean our guitars share some DNA other than Ben's sweat! LOL.

After my box was already built, I asked Ben out of curiosity if he ever used something other than ebony to trim the 3D soundport. He shared then that he was doing ziricote for yours. Looks spectacular!

Smile Death defying miters...

Those pointy miters at the end of the soundhole/port are just SCARY GREAT.

The whole axe is unbelievably beautiful!

Very pretty design. I admire Ben’s creativity and execution. It shows how nicely flawless work and impeccable taste can make a really beautiful guitar.
