I tried one in the GC in Indianapolis. It sounded muted and dead all around. It also didn’t project much. It didn’t even remind me of a Martin or Taylor... it was just on its own. Maybe this is why not many build with rosewood as tops.

So how do the two guitars compare; the ovangkoi and the mutenye on the same body?

So every link that everyone has posted to the GC listing is no longer active. Did Martin pull them to make a more expensive model?

Yesterday I played both the Dread and GPC, Really liked both, The GPC a bit more but MF has the Dread at $1099, and the GPC at $1399, Probably going to pull the trigger on the Dread today..

My wifes son bought an ovangkel dread & it is one sweet guitar. Loud & projects really well.

Yes, correct, BUT Taylor has not ever used ovangkol as a top wood, ever, that I recall. All their 400 and Ltd ovangkol guitars had Sitka tops with only a sparse few models with other wood, but never ovangkol that I ever recall.

I just picked one up tonite at G.C. A/b’d it against quite a few other models,
Ooo-15, the dreadnought version- which I didn’t like as much. I really liked the series that is all mahogany and looks distressed, can’t remember the name.
This guitar was louder and had a tone along the lines of rosewood. Good hi’ s and deep lows, even through the middle. Plugged in it sounded fantastic though. This guitar really can be used for anything .They had a new one in the box but when my guy got it out and tuned it up it sounded horrible. It was dried out . I was a bit disappointed since the wood was beautiful
I’m going to play it alone with my maple and bubinga tonight .
Life is good right know !
