Now don't open that can of worms! It could invoke all kinds of banjo jokes like... Q - What's the difference between a banjo and a trampoline? A - You take off your shoes before you jump on a trampoline! - and other stupid ones. I suggest if you want to make your guit-jo sound like a banjo, you will want an open tuning and some instruction in clawhammer technique. A lot of the ''sound of the banjo'' has to do with technique (well and that head and the bridge etc). Open G (DGDGBD) is a good place to start. It also helps to read dates and realize this thread has been dormant for several months before spending time composing answers like anyone cares .... gseesh!

Takamine Owl.
Tell him he's my favorite! Hands down! I think he is their secret weapon. I met Kevin in Bristol Tn/Va at a festival they played. A real cool doode. Thats cool you're related. The fellas are enjoying some well deserved success! He told me his Mom found his Gibson Guitjo. Said she had a good eye for stuff like that due to he and his brothers being guitar nuts. . . Tell him hello for me. . find out what he tunes in. I've watched him pretty closely and I'd venture to say standard. I haven't gotten into a band like I do these guys since Jerry Garcia was alive! No kidding, this is a fabulous group. Anyone that hasn't checked out those links you should. Old timey music played with rocked out punky passion!

Hi Joel..............
Give 'em some George Formby (UK circa 1940's)........good fun and a doddle on the six string banjo. (George played a ukelele, a favourite of George Harrison)
Good Luck...........Brian |
