Default new wood day (the tree and Lucky Strike) accessories project

Folks might recall that I had an intense interest in the history and mystique of the Tree. I embarked on a project to make a guitar-themed accessory box from The Tree.

I was quite happy with how this turned out and made an armrest for my 12 string:

Then I made matching Truss Rod Cover
trc

I then made scales for a nail car Victorinox Swiss Army Knife:

Then I came across a large number of odd shaped drops and took up pen turning:

Well, I became an AGF sponsor - sort of a hobby-turned micro business (just enough to cover costs and break even, not a real business at all). I made a couple dozen pens and then four more boxes. I had a disastrous error with the boxes and lost a lot of valuable wood.

I shelved this effort for six months .

Well, today a new supply of wood arrived and, as a nice surprise I got The Tree *and* Lucky Strike. All wood is authentic and traceable.

A few pieces are very chunky too, so that will make for some interesting things.

So, it's back to the bench! This winter season will be a fun one for some very special wood projects!

Looks like it might be nice but the photos are about 10x too large to fit on my monitor. Maybe resize?

Yeah that was an accident.

Like everyone else I used to use photobucket for forum pictures but stopped.

I've been using the direct insert function but that only allows three at a time and you cant inject text between the pics.

I had an old imgur I made for our daughter to post a pic of her halloween costume several years ago. So I was sort of experimenting when I wanted to post this.

I think I got the size fixed.

Thats easier than flickr which comes free with yahoo email but is a pain to use.

+1. I had to double check to see that it wasn't a guitar. Luthiers are a unique breed among woodworkers!

Thanks for posting the photos of the guitar-themed box. They made me smile. Nice work.

Try to imagine for a moment that i've not read every thread on this forum, and that by pure chance, I happen to know that there is no tree species that is named "The Tree".

Sorry.

So, there is a single highly figured mahogany tree that was so famous it was given a name: The Tree (emphasis on "the").

Here are some articles about it

And "Lucky Strike" was a downed redwood that was so perfect and rare it was named by the legendary duo that salvaged naturally fallen redwood.

Here is an article on that

Wow, that's really amazing. Slash says his guitar sounds better than any he's ever heard or played.
What kind of money would it take today for a back and sides set?

The box looks great. Would u care to post more pictures of your work.... I might steal ur idea and make me a little box. I love the idea of it. The fact that u have the cool woods just add to it. I know about “the tree” but I’d never heard of the lucky strike one before. Regardless of the wood used tho that is a sexy box that any guitar player would like
