I'd like to think George and Charles Merriam would be proud. Also, get yourself a dictionary, my good fellow man.

But to translate:

Don't be a fool, with all your nonsense, or you'll end up stabbed and running around counterclockwise.

Very sage advice, IMO.

I love it! So if I "unmute" the point, I will be able to hear it.

Joking aside, we do, unfortunately, often see that in forum posts instead of the correct "moot".

You're going to be on the radio in Montreal at 10:30? Excellent!

A past participle of "snickersnee?" What are they teaching in schools these days? In my day it was a noun.

He’s hornswoggling you. It’s origin is far more recent, by a noted American wordsmith.

If we use it enough, it'd be in the dictionary someday.

To be serious here, just for a moment, I often misspell words for their homophones (sounds the same but is spelled differently). I am a terrible speller, and have lived with the ridicule and shame of that for all my life. I actually try and spell things phonetically (fonetikly), which is very unsuccessful. Without a dictionary, spell correct, or google, I'd be lost.

So even though I know the difference between your and you're, and their, there, and they're, I can write (right?) them incorrectly.

People often think spelling is a sign of intelligence, which it is, but not the only one.

Definitions for Mute and Moot are 100% identical.

The only difference is the pronunciation.

Can't fault folks for having spelling challenges - many very smart people have trouble with it - but ignoring the ever-present speelchucker seems at best a bit lazy. Its their too help ewe.

A moot is that ring of water thingy that circumnavigates Canadian castles, you know, with a draw bridge eh.
