Settled on? Well, I'm a mahogany guy who has always loved the sound of a Martin D-35. I'm most comfortable with a 1 & 11/16th nut width and a C-shape modified low oval profile and a moderate taper, but I own a Bourgeois Mahogany D with a 1 & 23/32 nut width and a subtle taper. I'm a dread guy who owns a jumbo and a 000. Guess I'm not much of a settler.

I used to be into EF500 Epiphone Masterbilts because of their 1 3/4" nuts since I figured I had fat fingers. With practice, though, the fingers seem to "sharpen up," and now 1 11/16" is just fine. But what I've really "settled on" is 17" lower bout jumbo 12-strings! And I've got a couple holy grails in that category.

I've settled on...

Newtone Heritage strings
Dunlop Nylon pick (0.6 usually, occasionally 0.73)
Flesh only, not nails for fingerpicking

I'm beginning to think/realise that my ideal is 1 3/4 nut, probably less than 25" scale (unless I go 12 fret). I'm a 00/000 size kinda guy, but I do like a really rich/full tone.
I'm really fussy on my scratchplate - prefer not to have one ideally, but will accept an interesting looking one (dear Martin - that's not yours!)

Oh, and I play sitting down, I learnt that way, I've always played that way!

It's time to settle down and enjoy what I have. I am blessed to have the good guitars that I have. If I can't do what needs to be done with what I have, then it doesn't need doing. For now I am truly content. I hope the feeling lasts.

Took me years to discover that, dread, or smaller I needed, ideally, a 1 & 13/16" nut width, to a 2 & 3/8" string spacing - hence my 12 fret Collings guitars.

I can manage a 1 & 7/8" and, after lossing a whole load of weight in 2017, I find I can alomst cope with a 1 & 3/4" nut on my Waterloo which has a clumpy neck profile, and opens up to 2 & 3/8" string spacing over a short scale.

I had a Larrivee SD-50 with a 1 & 7/8" nut width with a shallow c profile that I could do good thing on, but it had to go to a pal with even fatter fingers than me.

So, that's why I play 12 fretters, not for the better bridge placing, or the advantage of the slotted headstock, but for the fretboard dimensions. I hope you can understand my speech in this, I was still pretty ill from my cancer treatment :

I've settled on a few things.
  • I do like that feeling, tone and power of a good Jumbo or dread. Even for softer passages. The Gibson or Martin type of feeling. Nice pretty highs and mids that are very well supported by the bottom end so as to not be thin and harsh. Deep, layered tone that I can feel within.
  • I ended up really digging rhythm, though I started out learning riffs and some pretty bad electric lead. The moment came via a realization that I had been playing for 5 years or so, but could not play even camp-fire strummy versions of 10 songs from beginning to end. That was 10 years ago.
  • I learned to level frets so that I can send action down low sans fret buzz. Kind of the Dan Erlewine setups in his book(s).
  • I settled on 4 being the magic number for my nice acoustics. I'm in the middle of a buy & sell switch out of the 4th spot. The first 3 are what I've been calling "wow factor guitars". It comes from the thought, "wow, I can't believe I get to own and play something this nice!" after about 3 seconds of playing.
  • I use picks almost exclusively.
  • I like playing covers, but prefer originals in my home project studio. It's almost two different worlds for me.

I've settled on:
Can't do parlors...I just don't like that small guitar sound..
I like full sounding guitars..Dreads-Jumbo's...Some Concerts
Still trying to find a smaller full sounding guitar....Probably a 000 or 0000 size
Still looking

I've settled on, I'm a tone snob but that doesn't mean it has to be expensive, it just has to make me smile...
I would like to try a 000-0000 12 fretter

I've settled on....I'll probably never be settled

My Bourgeois, bought new 21 years ago this fall, still feels like home base.

Martin SP 80/20 Medium strings (don't know what I'll do when I burn through my stash).

Clayton Ultem 1.2mm teardrop picks.

_________

Though I find over the last few years I've developed an appreciation for a slightly beefier neck,

and I generally use PBs or Monels on my other guitars,

and I've been playing around with Red Bear and Primetone,

the combo above has been baseline for quite a while now.

- OM to small jumbo is my sweet spot
- neck join at 14th fret
- long scale
- cutaway
- I'll consider anything but mahogany for the top
- no dreadnoughts
- 1 3/4 inch nut spacing
- no less than 16 inch radius
- ebony fingerboard

I think if there were one thing I have settled on when it come's to guitars is, that I prefer Dreadnoughts. They have the tone and feel that is the most fulfilling to my taste's. I have tried many times and played many different guitars but I always am drawn back to the Dreadnought.

I have never been so content with my gear. Everything from guitars to my signal chain to the minutia of strings and picks.

For acoustic play I've settled on my Martin D-1 custom all-mahogany dread. Even the pickup I finally found for it I'm in love with - a K&K Double Helix Solo.

For live play I'm so very happy with Cole Clark guitars. I have three but only need two so one will eventually go on the block. Just trying to decide which one!

For sound reproduction our mics and guitar into the StompMix X6 into either one or two (where needed) Bose S1 Pro(s).

For strings I am so very happy with John Pearse #710 New Medium PB's.

For picks I'm am so very happy with the Blue Chip CT-55.

The one thing I'm still looking for is a good mic for live streaming. I've auditioned some really high-end loaners that spoiled me and so I'm waffling on a few models right now with the Ear Trumpet Labs Myrtle being my favorite due to it's cool retro styling.

After that it's generalizations. While I prefer 1 3/4" nuts and 2 1/4" string spacing, mod or soft V necks and short scales, I've discovered that I can vary from them a bit with no problem.
