Default NGD - Taylor 352ce

I blame it on COVID-19. Until this disease Stay at Home order, I never knew I needed a 12 string. But, after spending a week at home all day either playing guitars or online reading about them, I discovered that what I was missing was a 12 string.

Once I get a thought like that in my head, it’s very difficult to remove it. Since I had some funds in my guitar account I thought what the heck. I ordered a Taylor 352ce, which arrived yesterday. The guitar is quite nice looking with a beautiful Sitka top (lots of silking). Back and sides are Sapele and the neck is some gorgeous mahogany.

Reading various online articles/forums I had the impression that tuning would be difficult and time consuming. I spent less than five minutes carefully tuning (reading online had given me a fear of the high G string breaking) and I was playing. It’s surprisingly easy to play, although fingering cleanly will take a bit of practice.

So how does it sound? Well, I’m horrible at describing sounds and tones, I just know what I like when I hear it. Hearing is a problem for me— I wear HAs most of the time, but even with them hearing subtleties in a guitar is quite difficult for me. With the 352ce I hear that chiming I associate with 12 strings and the fullness. I’m having a lot of fun going back to my older songs and re-playing them on the 12 string.

So, I really like the sound, feel and looks of this 12 string and am very satisfied with my purchase. I look forward to really getting to know the guitar.

Here are some pics:

Very sweet - congrats. There's nothing like the sound of a Taylor 12-string, and they definitely know how to make them right....

Congratulations, it is awesome. I used to have a 562ce...these Taylor GC 12-string 12-frets are sweet. Perfect for fingerpicking and a nice balanced strumming voice. Enjoy!

What a great way to put it and very true. Congrats on the Taylor 12! Something new to keep you entertained during this shelter-at-home time.

I have the 562ce and love it so much it's all I play now. The GC size allows me to play without shoulder pain. Love, love it!

Congrats, that’s a lovely 12-string!

I read in the latest edition of Wood and Steel that Taylor are swapping around the low and octave strings so that it will be more like Rickenbacker 12s with the low string first as you look down at the guitar. It might just be on a Builder’s Special rather than across the range.

My Furch 12-string is set up like yours which makes capo easier - I have the G7th Newport 12-string compensated capo which will not work on Ricks or new Taylors.

Nice! I was looking at those yesterday actually. The thing that scared me off was the v class bracing. All the v class guitars I've played seemed to be lacking in bass. How is it on that one? Maybe being a 12 fret offsets that a little?
