Default DR Sunbeams - Custom Lights (11-50) vs Lights (12-54)

I put a set of DR Sunbeam Custom Lights (11-50) on my Taylor GC4E and love them. Previously I have used either Elixir or D'addario PB 12-53s.

I tried the Sunbeams because I wanted the lower tension provided by the round core. I also went down to 11s to ensure that I would get a good result and I did. I am going to try a set of DR Sunbeam Lights (12-54) next to see if the tension is still acceptable. If so then I will probably stick with the Lights in order to get the best combination of tone and tension.

In terms of tone, I am very pleased with the DR Sunbeam Custom Lights. They don't have the high-end sparkle of hex core strings but the low end is much better. Overall the tone is more balanced and the guitar sounds more woody vs metallic. I am definitely sold on round core strings.

Any comments on what I might expect tension-wise with the DR Sunbeam Lights compared to hex core 12-53 strings would be very welcome.

Thank you

I use the 12-54's on a couple of guitars and find them great on those guitars. Good luck.
