Ebony
Thanks guys, I take al your points onboard. Still nobody has chipped in regarding Ebony as a back and sides wood......and also with an Alpine Spruce top too.?
I can't work out how good Ebony would be ? Matthew |

Ebony is great sounding IME - but it is known for having a good amount of bass, almost as much as rosewood but with a bit more clarity in the upper mids.
Here's what Taylor says https://www.taylorguitars.com/guitar...macassar-ebony Here's what Lowden says: https://youtu.be/lov_ystdnUA?t=138 I still recommend treating your room before you decide what you want, assuming you haven't already, and I would lean toward koa, mahogany or even sapele or malaysian/australian blackwood (not African) since you want to limit overtones. |

How about a Taylor with a spruce top and mahogany or maple back and sides in the model of your choice?
