Looking for gigging guitar ~$500, plus or minus. Suggestions?
Hey everyone,
Used to post a little bit but been away for a while. I used to play electric primarily, but I've recently taken a position in a church where I play *a lot* of acoustic. Problem is, I currently play a Takamine G20N (this one was particularly a diamond in the rough) that's been electrified with the cheapest artec active mag pickup I found on eBay. I'd like to get something as a dedicated gigging acoustic-electric guitar for around $500, plus or minus a couple hundred. Playability and electronics trump acoustic tone here; my Tak when de-electrified sounds positively magnificent. Partial to Epiphones and Yamahas, but willing to take any suggestions. What guitars do you folks think I should go take a look at? |

Why don’t you just remove the artec and install a K&K?

This! No need to get another guitar, especially if you aren't concerned with tone. |

Because... Because... I didn't think about it.
I currently run my acoustic through a Boss GT-1 effects processor (for electrics but works great with acoustics too). Haven't DI'd the GT-1 yet, opting for the clean channel of my Marshall DSL40C while this was still a "fill in as needed" position. I would like to change that and run the GT-1 straight into the board now that I'm in the position permanently. Will the GT-1 provide enough "oomph" as a preamp for the K&K to sound good through a church PA? |

I don't know about the GT-1, but it should be easy enough to try it out and see if it works. If it doesn't work, the Fire-Eye Red Eye preamp works beautifully with K&K pickups, in my experience. It's $195 at all the usual places.
