Default New Guitar Day

Well, the J-29 was built in 2014, but it's new to me. The former owner took great care with it. I've yet to find even a tiny ding. Enjoying the hell out of it.

Default Thanks

Yes, having a blast with it.
I bought it from a Forum member, who really couldn't have been more accommodating to this first time distance buyer. Martz911 was extremely helpful, informative, honest.

Congrats! I don't know how the J-29 differs from a custom J-45 rosewood but I've heard the rosewood 45 and it's stellar. Enjoy that new (to you) Gibson!

Default I don't really know much about the J-29

I think the J-29 went into production in 2014, and I don't think it's in production anymore. The research I did on it yielded surprisingly few facts.

There were a LOT of people who love J-29 and speak of it lovingly, but unlike the Taylor company, Gibson doesn't seem to have the PR machine to thoroughly explain its models, its attributes, its numbering scheme. Yes, I've been to their site, I've been through their numbering scheme explanation and still can't figure it out.

What I've read several places and heard in youtube J-29 reviews is that Gibson deviated from its numbering a bit with the J-29, making the unofficial claim that it was like the Martin HD 28, "but one better." So it appears that Gibson is capable of making a bit of a joke at its competition's expense.

Aside from all that, I'm loving mine.

I like the look: natural, slope-shouldered.

I don't think I've ever heard a J-29 rosewood. (Hint, hint!)

Default Give this a listen

It's not me but it's pretty fun. And it's got a really nice version of the SESAME STREET theme leading it off. As someone who's worked at 4 PBS stations in three states, it was quite appealing to me.

Looking at your signature, it looks like you were overdue for a Gibson.
Congrats! That is one fine looking instrument.
