Default The first notes on a new guitar

I've always found playing the first notes on a newly made instrument to be a magical experience. Even better is when I get the opportunity to play the instrument for the luthier who made it. Last week I visited Rosie Heydenrych of Turnstone guitars and had the chance to play her newest creation, a small body 12-fret model in ancient bog oak and cedar.

You can see the guitar in action in this vid too

All the best

Wonderful sound. I've heard other oak guitars that had a very good tonal range. Obviously the skill of the player adds very much. Always enjoy your playing Michael. I wish the general consumer population would be more open to domestic woods. Thanks for posting.

Hi Michael, super nice!

I've always been so enamored with the sound of a newly constructed instrument that I wrote an entire forum topic post about drawing the analogy between the voice of a new instrument and the first use of an astronomical telescope. The initial view in the telescope's case is referred to as "first light" and I thought it was an appropriate term to use for instruments as well. Here's a quick Youtube based on those thoughts if anyone should be intereted.

Wow, Michael!

That is a great sounding guitar, but really this is unfair. Just about any guitar would sound great in your hands.

Beautiful playing and lovely sound!

Warm and delicious.

Should be the theme tune for an expensive cognac commercial.

Thanks for sharing. Beautiful guitar and playing. First time I think I've ever heard a guitar made with oak.

Wow that was really beautiful playing Micheal and the guitar sounds wonderful as well.

I'd say a job well done for the both of you.

I'd also like to add that I believe that we are living in the very best time's for acoustic guitars we have so many wonderful choice's.

Oh well ...perhaps it will sound better when it opens up a bit.

Seriously.... had no idea a newborn guitar could sound that good.

What a nice big sound for a small guitar. I swear that oak imparts that quality in small guitars, perhaps the bog oak even more. That is some really cool stuff dating back thousands of years. A real treat.
