Default Bill's buttons...

I've never been a fan of the standard gold or chrome Gotoh 510 tuner buttons - just a little gaudy for my tastes.

I picked up a Taylor custom GC a while back with some nice Koa appointments and thought I'd run out to Bill's shop today and take a look at some of these.

I ended up going with the Koa outer and EIR inner because the Ebony headstock overlay is more brownish (not dyed)

These are a nice addition and like everything Bill does, they are very, very precise.

I'm also working on a flamed Koa overlay for the Pearse slimline armrest that was on it.

Check out Bill's buttons here:

I just bought a set for my 814ce from him. Well made, great looking and fit very well.

I agree with Fitness, I dont like the look of metal buttons. I think that everything that could be wood should be. Im pretty sure the gears/post and plate holding them will always have to be metal as well as strings so Im ok with that but buttons can be wood so they should be. That does not apply to vintage guitars.

Those are very elegant, fitness, good choice.

I’m another player who doesn’t care for stock metal buttons on tuners. I swap them out with either wood or high quality plastic aftermarket buttons. Doing so cuts a surprising amount of weight from the headstock while offering a nice visual contrast at the same time.

I put a set on my Larrivee L-10 Custom...really love the look and they actually handle better. I went with ebony with bloodwood inlays. Not a cheap mod, but wow...instant gratification!

I forgot to mention, when I was switching them out, I dropped one of those tiny washers on the floor (carpet that is multi-colored heather) It took me about a half hour to find the darn thing! That's the way things have been going lately!

I've had that happen more than once. It's a pain in the butt and to avoid it you have to maintain constant vigilance.

Even then, it can still happen; it's as though those pesky little rascals see their chance and make a desperate break for freedom...

It stuck to the end of the button I was pulling and dropped in mid-air, so yes, it was like it was planning it!

I bought a set of Charis ebony buttons for my Taylor 514ce. I think they are exceptionally well crafted and a nice upgrade to the factory buttons.

You do some beautiful wood yourself Bill!

Might want to add your link to your signature so others can see your work!

Got a little better shot of these during a string change today, so I thought I'd bring this back up!
