Default This device has an unexpected benefit!

Well moving recently, I somehow injured my left thumb. I have arthritis already but this is something else again. Most likely it's a tendon and it's been sore now for about 2 months.

In any event I was looking for a little support to make it have less movement, and I came up with the device pictured below quite by accident as it was given to me by another person. As it turns out, this device is an excellent way to prevent you from doing a thumb over on your guitar neck. So if you've been struggling trying to break that habit as I have, this may be something you want to look into. It's comfortable enough to play with, yet it prevents you from doing that sort of maneuver and forces you to put your thumb more behind the neck.

Look similar to the Push CMC Thumb brace that I have been using for the past couple of weeks. Definitely a useful piece of kit for those with this problem.

I did not realize the "thumb over" was a bad habit. It is not classical, but so many good players do it.

You are right of course. A technical habit is only bad if it limits other techniques - I assume that's how the op meant it.

Only is if you tend to do it all the time as I do. At least it's one habit of like to limit anyway.

That's too bad you try not to thumb over.

It's actually very useful in some cases.

I play a few songs in drop D tuning with some complicated fingerings and thumbing-over the 6th string is quite beneficial.

Did someone tell you that you shouldn't do this?
