Room humidifier

Can you please give me a recommendation for a room humidifier? The room is about 100 sqft and door is shut all the time. We are in Michigan and with the furnace already on my hygrometer gave me a reading of 40-45% in the last 24 hours.

Costco has one currently on sale in our stores - has a sensor so that you can you can set humidity level and it will turn on and off in responses to the humidity level. Top filling. Works fine.

I like larger. Doesn't have to run as often, has to be filled less often. I use a Vornado Evap40 for my 121sf room. It has two 2-gallon tanks, and even during dry season I only have to refill one once or twice a week.

I also recommend a plug-in humidistat ($40 off Amazon) as most built-in sensing (if a unit has one at all) is pretty hit-or-miss.

Yep...I use the Vornado, too. Works great.

Whatever you buy I suggest an evaporator type with a humidistat and dual tanks.

Another vote for the Vornado. Mine's been running 14 hours a day for two years now with no problems.

I get about 2 months out of the pair of wicks, which are very easy to change out.

Unlike almost every other humidifier on the market it has a CMOS that allows it to remember it's settings even after a complete power failure.

It also has scheduled humidification capabilities...Also an extremely rare feature...I bought it precisely for this feature as it was required for my use case.

Just be careful with mist humidifiers if you're not willing to pay for and use distilled water....the dust from tap water is super annoying. They are not designed for tap water.

In my view using anything but a quiet mist humidifier in a music room is a no go...can shut off while playing I guess but I like to set it and forget ...to each their own

The built in humidistat reads low so I monitor with a seperate hygrometer and set the humidifier accordingly. It's fine once you get used to it.

Agreed.

I've been using a Vornado Evap 3 in my relatively small guitar room.
The device itself works fine but yes, the built-in sensor is not reliable.

I would simply hang a towel and wet it with tap water every day.

For the last two cold and dry Winters up here, I did hang a wet hand towel in the two sliding doors ward robe where I store my guitars : it worked very well as witnessed by the hygrometers : room, wardrobe and inside some of the cases.

No fancy gadget anymore for me.
