Default T.I.N.Y. 2023

What a privilege it was yesterday to host the first annual TINY (Thomas’s Invitational Nonsensical Yawnfest). It was a day filled with music, laughter, and guitar geekdom.

The luthiers who joined us included Kim Walker, Ken Parker, John Slobod (Circa Guitars), Burton LeGeyt, and Phil Brunwin (Bethany Guitars). Guitars in attendance included vintage Gibsons, Martins, Larsons, Nationals, and D’Angelicos. Modern guitars included Walkers, Circas, Bethanyies, Gilchrists, New Eras, and a bunch of others that I hope forumites Juston and Bob will recall and post.

We had jam sessions galore, a large song circle, and guitar stories.

I’m looking forward to TINY 2024!

TINY was sort of an impromptu thing. I had a great time visiting John, riding bikes, and playing guitars all week.

A whole bunch of great guitars here. National, Walker, Bethany, D'Angelico, Franklin.

A bevy of Banners.

Tom Dalia playing a Gilchrist.

Darrell Jennings, of American Music Furniture, playing Bob Berger's Sexauer.

Bob and Tom.

Norman and Pat Plankey. Mae Valerio.

Martin McCann, Phil Brunwin (of Bethany guitars), and someone who wouldn't go away.

John Slobod playing Bob's Franklin.

Karen Hogg and Richard Mott.

John Slobod describing the 00-12 his daughter, Quincy, built.

Richard Mott performing for the group.

Frank Vergola playing Quincy's 00-12.

Bob Berger, Martin McCann, Kim Walker, and John Slobod.

Awesome to finally meet my buddy, Bob Berger in person.

Playing an incredible Ken Parker archtop.

Ken Parker and Burton LeGeyt discussing tooling (no kidding). I peppered them with questions about the hows and whys of tooling for guitar building. You have no idea the lengths these guys go to.

John Slobod, Kim Walker, and Burton LeGeyt.

Phil talking about his L-00 replica.

Shining like a National Guitar . . .

John noodling on the National. KILLER guitar.

What a great week, Juston! Thanks so much for visiting.

Yes, TINY was impromptu. A few days ago, I reached out to friends and invited them to spend a musical day at my home. I'm fortunate to have good friends who are fabulous guitar makers and players.

Not sold on the extra periods! But it sure looks like it was a BLAST!

What a fantastic group of Luthiers!!! Amazing amount of talent in one small spot.

And, not an electric anything in sight.

GO ACOUSTIC

Hahaha

The luthiers are friends. I emailed them about a week ago. They happily came for the hang. Some traveled a fair distance. I'm a lucky fellow. This wasn't a guitar show of any sort. Just a gathering at my home. The luthiers are not to offer guitars for sale. The event is free. I provide drink, food, and (humbly) an astonishing collection of guitars, but ask others to bring "interesting" guitars. It's just a day-long hang for friends. Next year, it will be a 2-day hang.

As for electrics, we did have one. In addition to bringing his acoustic archtop, Ken did bring his original Parker Fly prototype. Here he talks about it on YouTube:

I thought T.I.N.Y. was John’s humorous take on B.I.G.
