I've always found small talk to be awkward for me. If I don't have something meaningful to contribute to a conversation, I don't say much, if anything. In fact, I usually struggle to have anything to say at all and am typically a terrible conversationalist.

I do better in intimate settings with a person or two and usually shy away from large gatherings (I'm usually the one sitting quietly while everyone else blathers on about whatever).

Maybe I should move to Finland...

LOL - Funny how we have shy sides like this.

When I was 16 I was in the USA youth choir. We toured Europe singing on stages large and small. I was comfortable in front of the large crowds where I could hide into my own space on stage or alone with the 2 girls I just met and felt I knew best.

Yet, in my own home when I have a McJam gathering of friends right here whom I have known for years I have never yet sang alone on the make shift stage in front of any of them. I don't see that ever happening. Ever.

I have no idea who (s)he is ... but I doubt it.

BTW, people related can be very very different.

It's funny to see a thread about small talk on a forum. Makes you want to go hmmmm?

No, forum talk is considered big talk!

There's nothing worse than trying to converse with someone who doesn't reply appropriately. The secret is to ask a lot of questions to keep the conversation going.
