Default Faux truss rod cover?

Not having a truss rod adjustment on your headstock. No problem, fake truss rod cover. Anyone ever tried it?

Certainly not hard to do, although I don't know anyone who has done it. I think the truss rod covers look cool but I'd think twice about drilling into a headstock unless the guitar isn't of great value. Could hurt future resale.

They make some really nice custom logo Truss Rod Covers. If you like the look, I see no problem. Customize the look, add your name, or design your own..

I get why. It’s a nice, easy decorative personalization whether or not a trc is on the headstock. There are non-permanent adhesives to allow for this.

Adhesive is what I was going to suggest. Drilling/screwing unnecessarily gives me anxiety. It would look nice to match the "cover" to the back/side wood.

I had a Chinese copy of a J-200 in my shop some time ago with a faux truss rod cover.

Another interesting "feature" was the inside label. Read it closely...

The truss rod cover on the headstock of my locally made Dan Dubowski is purely decorative.

You said it before I could - having an attractive truss rod cover is an easy way to fancy up a guitar with a little bit of affordable flash. But it remains small, and usually won’t visually overwhelm the rest of the guitar.

There’s quite literally no need for it, but for that matter, strictly speaking there’s no actual need for me to swap out the stock metal buttons on my guitar tuners for ebony or snakewood buttons instead. Which is something I routinely do.

But I like the dash of élan and elegance that those contrasting aftermarket buttons provide in their own small way, and I see Dave’s interest in truss rod covers as originating from a similar impulse.

Hope that makes sense.
