I have had guitars that I have now owned for 40 plus years and I would never say that wouldn't change my mind at some point or that my tastes might change, but I keep an open mind and when I do come a crossed a guitar that peaks my interest I will do a comparison test against the three guitars that I have that I feel are the best sounding guitars in my humble collection, and if the new guitar in question can come out on top, well, move over Rover there going to be a new guitar in the house....I am happy to say that I have done a few A/B tests, 6 in total against Martins D-28 aged an non aged Authentic's and my work horse still came home with me.

One of these test's was with a private seller, and when he played my guitar as I was playing his, he asked if I would be interested in trading? I politely said no, and his response was you really have something here, I thanked him and I believe so too.

I will say that the best sounding guitar that I have had the pleasure to play was a mid 40s Martin D-18 and that guitar was already noted in his will to go to his son.

In my case a Yamaha L25A that was for 18 years my only acoustic, great guitar but had a few accidents on the way and probably still my best guitar, don´t think I would get a fair price for it.The second is my 2015 Martin 000-18 that my best friend drove 2000 miles to deliver it to me,he unexpectedly died the year after so it has enormous emotional value to me

I have my 2003 Martin 000-42. It is my forever guitar. I really like it. And everyone else who plays it and/or hears it, tells me it is an exceptional instrument.

A bucket list guitar built by Brian Applegate, an SJ, not bespoke built, but one of four built for his doctorate from Edinburgh University. Remarkable in that I will never look at a IRW/Sitka build the same way again.

Although it's the least expensive guitar I have, I can't see myself ever letting go of my old Seagull M6.

I just keep coming back to it.

I suppose it depends on how long I live. If I live long enough, I'm probably not going to be able to play the guitar all the way to the end of my life. The smart thing would be to divest myself of all these instruments before I reach the end of the line.

At this stage, age 74, I am not ready to get rid of any of my guitars yet.

Rock on Glenn. I'm "only" 65 so place a great deal of hope for the future in your journey! Thanks for the encouragement.

Do you have a guitar(s) that you know you will own until the day you die?

Wouldn't even try to guess....

Yes, it's a Martin 000-18GE with a '37 sunburst. It's a long story, but the cliff note version is that my dad inspired my love of music. He loved music and played organ frequently at the house. But about 8 years ago we found out he had a glioblastoma brain tumor (stage 4) and 3 months later is was gone. We all got a little bit of life insurance money, and in honor of him and his love of music I bought my dream guitar. Not only is it the perfect guitar in my opinion (short scale, adi over mahogany, sunburst, 000 body size, v shaped neck), it sounds incredible and it means the world to me because of the path that life took that bought it into my possession. I will probably will it to one of my kids, but I will play it till I die.

Now that I've got it back it's hard to imagine moving on my Waterloo Wlk, actually that goes for any of my 'loos.
Then again if someone offered me $7k for one I'd have to have a think. Wouldn't think of listing any of them for such a silly price though.

Two examples.
1. In the 80's my wife bought me a Japanese Fender Strat that was a real stretch for us, but she worked out a way to make it happen. I could never let that go.

2. I spent about $1,500 for a bunch of really high end Telecaster parts and assembled a phenomenal Tele. I'm attached to it but the real reason I can never sell it is because its almost worthless.

I'll be buried with both of them.
I know it's not the most expensive guitar in the world But I'm completely enamored with my solid mahogany Alvarez.
