Default New Shure Wireless System

Shure just updated the GLXD16 wireless system. I am guessing it is related to the chip shortage but I am going to see if I can find out exactly what they changed. These have always been very cool units!

I have had constant issues with my Sennheiser XSW systems, I love them but they keep failing. I think I will check the new Shure out. The Everse should be able to power it from its aux power out.

The description on Sweetwater says it's dual-band (2.4 and 5.8 Ghz). Looking forward to hearing real-world reviews once it's in market.

I look forward to reviews as well.

I stopped using wireless units during what I call the frequency wars, in the early 2000's.

I had been using UHF $500. units. Worked fine for the gigs I was playing.

As I became more and more aware of tone loss, I went back to cables.

Have been connected ever since.

I do miss the freedom though.

Shure does not use a proprietary cable. It is a 1/4” to mini XLR, same as Line 6 and a number of other wireless makers.

I wonder what the advantage is of this system over the $65 or so I spent on my generic wireless jacks, other than the two bands I guess. Better sound quality? I do notice a difference in tone comparing mine to cable, but it's easily tunable via EQ.

If you are talking about the system I think you are then it will come down to better tone (those systems change the tone a bit). Also it should have a longer range and be more reliable in certain environments.

I would much rather use the Sennheiser XSW systems but they have a serious issue with their batteries (and can not even be replaced by the user).

Also the battery life is much greater. I always worry about this when I play a wedding and most of the smaller systems only last for 4 hours. The Shure lasts 3 times longer.

I've tried to go wireless a couple of times, usually on bass where I'm actually playing standing for some gigs. I never thought the juice was worth the squeeze. All my guitar (and current) bass gigs I'm playing seated on a stool, so there is no advantage to wireless so I just stay plugged in. Wireless is just one more system to fail, and as they say, Murphy goes on every gig...

I agree, if you don't move around you don't need wireless.

Out of curiosity, what's the benefit of wireless if you are a solo performer playing smaller venues? Isn't it just adding more "stuff"? I use a wireless in my band for my mandolin but it's generally because the stages are large and I have about four instruments so I am trying to cut down on cables.
