Assuming a 25.4" scale length, with great difficulty, unless you use heavy gauge strings for strings 6, 5, 4 and 3.

Its written as CGCFCE but lowered by a full step

The C tuning you referred to is a fairly low open tuning, and is not one of the more common alternative tunings in use these days. But if you want to experiment with it, start by getting a set of D'Addario heavy gauge strings or else a set of John Pearse resonator strings. Or get a baritone guitar and tune it down a half step. Anyway, the reason you can't find the tuning online is probably that not many players are using it. You'll probably have to be something of a pioneer figuring out how to best string and play a guitar with that particular tuning. Please keep us informed as to your progress on this. Hope this helps. If you mean, physically how to accomplish that tuning, using any sort of chromatic tuner (a snark would do) would allow you to tune any string to any note. However, whether such tuning will work for you is another matter.

Can't you just play it in CGCFCE, or do you specifically want to play along with a recording? I use the D'Addario True Medium/DADGAD set for CGCFCD tuning, which is a very common tuning if you listen to Martin Simpson et al - only one string different. Trusty Snark has no problem with that.

The variant of Open C that I use is CGCGCE. I use a stabndard light set, but the 6th string pretty floppy. Taking the 3rd through 6th strings down another step, I'd think that you will have to put on a custom set for those strings.
Tell us, what are you looking at that is calling for this tuning. We might be able to help from that angle. |

Agree, I'd use my baritone for this.

As the others say, this puts strings 6-5-4-3 really low (tune down to those notes, not up!), and you probably need heavier gauge for those at least, especially the 6th (which is 3 whole steps down). Strings 2-1 should be OK with standard gauge (only slightly lower than normal). But I also agree with boombox, if this is an instrumental tune why not play it in CGCFCE? Standard light gauge should be OK for that.

Tune DOWN not up. You might need to bump to a heavier gauge of string to get the low strings to not flop (depending on your setup). You'd be dropping a lot of strings (4 of em if I counted right) to down-tune by a third (minor and major). Fun to try… |
