If I was you I'd start worrying about things that are far more likely to happen, such a Yeti entering your house and stealing your guitar in the night

I'd not worry about picks inserted that way detuning your guitar a bit. I think the strings will impact the pick more than the pick will impact the strings or guitar.

Where do you find those picks?! And are they really worth it. I gotta know!

No matter what color my pick is, I manage to set it down on whichever color furniture/carpet that it most closely matches

I keep mine in an over under over configuration on the GBE strings between the nut and the tuners. It works fine with a "medium" pick or thinner. It does not require me to retune and causes no harm to the pick.

It seemed that I kept a good number of my picks in my guitar! How is it I can be playing and hit the strings just right to ring the sound hole, but could never ring it on purpose if I tried? Well I solved that problem with the Ovation Elite. That's the main reason I bought it. The small holes are harder to ring! LOL

No!

From time to time I'll let friends sit in w/ the band on my guitar. Invariably they'll stick a pick in the strings and I won't realize it until things seem out of tune or I get back to the first position,...

I always keep a pick tucked between the a/d strings on the first fret. Can't remember a time when I didn't.

If you are an Oasis humidifier user, you would have to worry more about THAT stretching the strings than a pick.

And from experience, even stretching the strings and getting that Oasis in between them doesn't detune my guitar at all.

On a good guitar, after putting on new strings, the tuning should stabilize after 2 to 3 days in my opinion,

Always. Under the high E, over the B and under the G, about the 4th-5th fret. My guitar sits on a stand in my bedroom, and when I pick it up, I never have to look for a pick.

I always have one there -- always at the third fret - always pointed toward the Low E. For each guitar.

I was worried about that, too. So, after the guy at the guitar store tuned my guitar, I marked the starting position of each tuner knob. Then, I stored a pick in the strings. It's been 17 months now and the tuner knobs haven't moved even a tiny bit. Therefore, I feel safe in telling you that storing a pick in the strings will not affect the tuning and you won't have to tune up everytime you play, despite what some of the over-worried guitar weenies on this forum tell you.

The tuner knobs aren't going to move...the strings are going to stretch....but not from keeping your pick in them.
That is the whole point of the tuners...as the strings strech w/ age and use you can continually adjust them.
Are you saying you haven't tuned your guitar in 17 months? You might want to put a tuner on it...I think you'll be in for a surprise.
