Good News/Bad News
I have been pondering an upgrade to my all solid Mahogany dread, and am considering a couple of Yamahas as candidates, the Yamaha FG-5 and the Yamaha LL-16M. The good news is that the elusive Yamaha FG-5 (and the FG-3) is finally in stock at Sweetwater. The bad news is that the tax man took such a chunk out of me this year that I can no longer afford either one without going on an exclusive macaroni and cheese diet for about 6 months. It would be worth it to me, but wife unit doesn’t agree. It seems sometimes that I just have no luck at all. As long as I have put it out there, which would you choose? I am leaning strongly towards the LL-16M, but I have heard good things about the FG-5.

I'd like to try the 16M, I'm sure you're aware of the scale difference. The LL will possibly be a bit more powerful and snappy in comparison. I love short scale guitars for comfort but I love what full scale guitars bring to the table, my main guitar is 25 5/8, I could never let it go.
I'm not sure what I would do in your shoes. I think the scale length would be the deciding factor depending onwhich length was appealing to me the most. I'm also not a fan of the somewhat orange tint on the FG5. |

Aha. I suspect some Cajun roots, bro.

Get the FG5, it's amazing! You can finance it for 36 months with Sweetwater...only $39.00 a month. That's about the same as a gallon of gas, or a cup of coffee at Starbucks!

Mac and cheese, and rice? I would be stuck with Ramen Noodles.
