Humbuckers: Gibson 57 Classic
Tele: the factory set in mine. Twisted Tele and Broadcaster. Strat: bought a custom set from Tom Brantley (he used to work for Lindy Fralin and now does repair work and custom sets) and they are superb.

Any love for Filtertrons or their more powerful variations?

No prior experience. Acoustic guy for 30 yrs. What I have learned: 1. Most single coils suffer with buzz in the signal. At least in my tiny studio room and I only record direct into DAW with plugins like Helix native. NOT 60 cycle hum, not a grounding problem. Even when you shield the internal cavities. The only quiet single coil pickup I could find for my tele are Fishman Fluence. I put in the Koch model. Absolutely completely zero buzz. Finally problem solved. 2. Humbuckers vary in their output levels. Some are so powerful it can be hard to get a workable clean tone, even with riding the volume knob. For me, Seymour Duncan Jazz humbuckers work for me. -Charles

Humbuckers... you're right, high output humbuckers can overdrive the amp even when clean. I find a big difference between my DiMarzio Super Distortions and my '57 Classics. Depending upon what I'm playing I will prefer one over the other which is why a diversity of pickups are important to me. |

There are different types of Rickenbacker pickups. Toasters and vintage magnetic horseshoe pickups are my preferences over the others they make/made.

My '58 Les Paul Jr 3/4 has a screamer original P90.
My '65 Melody Maker has T Top PAFS from the same period. I'm a big fan of HarmonicDesign pickups. I have them 8n my Tele and the P90s in my PRS McCarty.
