Default 2011 Guild D50 Standard - SOLD

Up for sale is a very nice 2011 D50 Standard that I would love to keep. Even though it's a significantly better guitar than the '73 D50 I've owned since I was a teenager, I have way too much emotional investment in that one, and can't bring myself to part with it. This one is a typical light New Hartford build, and represents everything that made these guitars the best that Guild ever made, or likely will make. I hate to say it's mint, but I can't find a single flaw on it, other than some very faint pick scratches on the top that are impossible to photograph. The top of this guitar is a beautiful piece of sitka spruce with super tight grain, a bit of 3D, excellent silking, and even a little bearclaw.

Sides and back are some very nice straight grain East Indian Rosewood. You can see the satin finished neck in this photo.

The guitar has just had a complete setup, with the action set at 3/32" on the bass side, and 5/64" on the treble side.

There is zero fret wear on this guitar, and as you can see, there's an extremely tall saddle for future action adjustments. Nut width is 1 11/16", and string spacing at the bridge is 2 3/16". Neck profile is a nice full "C" profile.

Serial number tells us that it was the third guitar completed on September 27th, 2011. It comes with the OHSC in excellent condition. All latches work, and no strange smells from this non-smoking home.

Just found a video of the cutaway version of this guitar that gives you a good idea of how this one sounds.

Price is $SOLD plus actual shipping charges by FedEx Ground from zip 11754, and I really don't think you'll find a better guitar for this kind of money. It compares quite favorably with any recent Martin D28 or other rosewood dread I've played, and for a lot less money. I would prefer a check or money order at this price, but we can discuss PayPal or other methods if that works better for you. No trades right now, because I'm full up.

Are there any fret wear mark on the first three frets?
Where are you shipping from?

Zero fret wear, and the guitar has just been set up by my luthier. Shipping from Long Island, NY.

Tuesday afternoon bump. Video link added, so you can hear how great these guitars really sound.

The only thing that is keeping me from pulling the trigger is the 1-11/16 neck and the C shape profile. I haven’t played one of these but I have a vintage Taylor 510 with the same size neck. I have been holding out for a Martin HD-28v and I just don’t have enough personal experience with a D50 to compare.

This is a seller who is well-respected on the Let's Talk Guild forum. I would buy a guitar from him without reservation.

And he is right about New Hartford. Best Guilds ever made.

Thanks for the kind words gents.

For those here that have only played older D50s from Westerly, and think that they're overbuilt (my '73 certainly is, but manages to sound pretty good anyway), this one is an entirely different beast. It's light for a rosewood dread at only 4.6 pounds, and is very resonant. Listen to the video clip (performed by old friend Dave Gonzales when he was Guild's brand manger), and you can hear for yourself. Yes, it is that good.

Default Available Again

Well folks, it looks like the guitar is available again, as the buyer complained that the action was too low, and doesn't have a luthier nearby that they trust. Honestly, I'm not sure whether that's actually the case, or they're experiencing buyer's remorse, but either way, I don't want to stick somebody with a guitar that they don't want for whatever reason.

When I get a guitar setup by my luthier, he knows what I like and always sets up at the 12th fret with 3/32" bass side, and 5/64" on the treble side. If you're a bluegrasser that really digs in with a flat pick, that action is probably going to be too low, and you're going to want a bit more relief in the neck. I know that the setup is dead nuts perfect for me, but YMMV, of course.

So.... let's bump this on a Friday!

And not just any D50. A mint made in New Hartford CT D50. There won’t be any more of them.
