Hog vs Rosewood - Dread & OM
Hey everybody,
I'm curious to know what's everyone's preferred tonewood on a dread and OM sized guitar? And why do you prefer it? Cheers |

Depends on the day.

I don't have a preferred tone wood. I like rosewood, mahogany, and maple. They all bring something a little different to the table. I have all three in dread form and mahogany and maple in OM form.

Personally I prefer mahogany in a dread, rosewood in an OM. Except when I don't. I suppose my thinking is that RW adds a little depth to the smaller body, the drier hog cuts the boominess of a dread. But I've played scores of exceptions.

I have and play a rosewood OM and a mahogany OM (fingerstyle, flesh and nail). I like both and do not prefer one over the other. Still, there are meaningful differences between the two instruments which are quite enjoyable.

You have to find out yourself. If there was only one answer there would only be one choice.
