Default That First Scratch!

Let'sface it we buy'em and lpay 'em because we love the soud they make but we also have a kinda love affair with the way they look.

I have had this Santa Cruz "RS" for some time (picture attached) but don;t play it out much - but today for a little practice with Mando Bob, I decided to give it some use, and , just put it away , drooling over it's divine sunburst and ....Wot's That? - a small but visible scratch! Argh - My world has ended !

Oh well, the honeymoon s over.

That is a beauty and now just gained a tad more character.
I know what you mean though. Mine have gained quite a bit of character over the years but that first dent, scratch or blemish is definitely the most painful of the bunch.

Best,
Jayne

That's a fine instrument Andy. Now you've ruined it, if you ever decide you can't bear to live with it any more...

I've recently purchased my first "mint" guitar; a Taylor 522ce 12 fret. (As an aside, thank you Silly for the youtube videos advocating for the 12 fretters!).

Anyway, the new-to-me Taylor is a stunningly beautiful guitar and I will rue the day I scratch it. Kinda like bonding with a puppy, knowing you'll see him grow old and pass on.

Andy,
I know how you feel. I don't want you to have to view the ugliness that is your "RS" so email me and I will pay shipping to have the beast join my Remuda.

Sincere sympathy for you.

I have owned a D15m for about 4 years. Except for a little fret wear and grease spots on fretboard it was perfect. Perfect until last November or so when I dragged the top across a case bracket. I still feel a little sick thinking about it.

I remember my first scratch, or rather gouge on my harp guitar. It got bumped before playing in a worship service. I truly thought I was going to throw up. As time goes on the nicks and dings are just signposts for where we've been. ;-)

I know how you feel! I've got a 1999 guitar that has one (1) little ding in it and I cringe every time I see it. I've tried to move over buying to used guitars with "character" already applied but none have stuck.

I'll have to take your word for it - it's not visible on my computer, but I'm sure it will be the first thing you see when you take it out of the case for a while. Sorry.
